Smt Mrinalini Devi

[Wife of Visva – Kabi Rabindranath Tagore, also known as Gurudev]

Mrinalini Devi was born in 1873 at Jossore (at present Bangladesh). Her father Benimadhab Ray Choudhury was a clerk in the estate of Debendra Nath Tagore, father of Rabindranath. Before marriage her name was Bhabatarini. At the time of marriage, she was almost illiterate. After marriage, she admitted in Loreto school. Her passionate nature had changed Rabindranath to a caring and beautiful husband, the name Mrinalini and the nickname Chhuti — both were given by kabi himself.

Mrinalini Devi’s contribution to the ashram — students of Shantiniketan is worth memorable.

We, the organisers, dedicate all our professional endeavour in course of organising this program, to this pious lady who had maintained a very low profile lifestyle even being the wife of Gurudev but always was behind Gurudev’s every success.
